How Life Plan Communities Are Using Data to Support Residents and Advocacy
A LeadingAge article describes two ways life plan organizations are turning large datasets into practical decisions. A University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill analysis of North Carolina’s 66 life plan communities found that they serve about 25,000 residents, employ 20,000 people, and generate roughly $5 billion in annual state revenue. The article says members are using community-specific figures in conversations about development, zoning, and public policy.
The second example comes from Friends Life Care, a continuing-care-at-home provider rather than a residential campus. Its predictive model uses health information to identify risks to independence and suggest early interventions. The article reports that members who followed at least one recommendation delayed care outside the home by as much as 3½ years; this is a reported program result, not a guarantee for every person.
