Give your participants the Model Bill of Rights for Residents of Continuing Care Communities. This two page document is possibly the most important document that NaCCRA has developed. (available at NaCCRA.com)

"This Bill of Rights grew out of a consultative process lasting over a year and involving residents from approximately 50 continuing care retirement communities...

"It is intended to serve as a model of best practice for residents and providers, and as a convenient resource for citizens and legislators as they guide the evolution of regulations and laws pertaining to CCRCs."

Disseminate it prior to and during the retreat to give your residents a deeper understanding of the issues so they can formulate their desires and communicate them effectively.

You are very fortunate to have management that trusts residents and seeks meaning input from them. Keep us posted.

I have the book Disrupting the Status Quo of Senior Living. That is not at a level that is useful for his purpose.

I'll second that.

If you have not read Disrupting the Status Quo of Senior Living by Jill Vitale-Aussem, you may want to do that to see if any of her ideas about changing the model of how CCRCs are organized and managed may be of value for your CCRC. Often, a CCRC is organized around what is called the resort model -- everything is done for you. The skills and experiences of residents are often not utilized in making the daily life in a CCRC more meaningful and rewarding for both residents and management.

A CCRC is having an off-site multi-day strategy retreat to learn, explore and envision the future. Below is the overview, with removal of the CCRC identify. They are asking residents to fill out a survey for input to the retreat discussions. I am looking to you for ideas, that are brief and concise, to help with input that I could use in the survey I fill out. You may yourself have a few things on your list of what you would like to see change in governance and life living at a CCRC. I am expecting the survey will include a freeform field to express ideas in more detail.

The Board of Directors, Leadership Team, and the Executive Committee of the Resident Council will participate in a strategy retreat to learn, explore and envision the future.

Key themes for our retreat include:

Experience – How will we personalize the experience for Residents and Team Members?

Technology – How will we make life and work easier and more joyful for Residents and Team Members?

Growth – How will we continue to grow?

The retreat will be professionally facilitated and will include three guest speakers and engagement in World Café Discussions on a variety of topics to help shape our long-term vision, clarify our organizational priorities, and define success in the years to come.

As Residents, your daily experiences, ideas, and perspectives are critical to informing our future direction. We want to take your ideas with us into our strategy retreat, so I hope you will take a few minutes to complete a brief survey. Your input will help guide our discussions as we continue to improve the Resident experience, invest in new and updated amenities and services, and explore innovations.
