VRLTA § 55.1-1201 states: "This chapter shall apply to all jurisdictions in the Commonwealth and may not be waived or otherwise modified, in whole or in part, by the governing body of any locality or its boards or commissions or other instrumentalities or by the courts of the Commonwealth."

VRLTA gives residents a number of rights and protections.

I live at Medford Leas in New Jersey and we have no such protections. Is this a state thing?

NJ has a state association. Go to the Ombudsman forum, 1st topic. I added links there to learn more or contact someone.
